Faux painting classes are becoming more and more popular, as is the art itself.  This is due to the increased demand for unique and distinctive finishes for clients, as well as the increasing costs of genuine material such as marble, mahogany and other rare materials.

You can find faux painting classes, of some sort, in just about every city across the globe these days. Below is a list of things that you should look for in a any reputable institution.

  • A seasoned and experienced instructor

  • The background of the instructor. Are they practicing, or are they purely academic?  You'll want someone who is actively practicing the trade, as they will have more real world experience to bring to the table.

  • What finishes will be taught?

  • What is the length of the class? Is it a realistic time frame for the finish in question?

  • How are the classes taught? Do you get to practice the finish on a wall, or some other suitable and realistic surface?

  • What is the cost of the program and is it a reasonable amount?

  • What materials and supplies are included? Are they of appropriate quality?

  • If the class is out of town, are your hotel/transportation needs included?

  • If the class is out of town, are there facilities to assist you in running your business or life from a distance? For example, do you have access to a fax machine, computer/internet, email, phone messages?

These are but a few of the issues you'll want to consider when choosing a faux painting class. Be sure to think about your specific needs and concerns before committing to any particular program.

Check out our message boards, and feel free to post a question about a specific institution or class. There is no better way to find out if the class you are considering is worth the time and cost than by asking someone who has already attended the same class.

Learn about teaching yourself faux painting outside of classes. Faux finishing classes are available in your neighbourhood!
